New Safeway opens in Elk Grove

The grocery store is opening up in the Laguna Reserve Marketplace on Bruceville Road.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — A new Safeway opens in Elk Grove on Thursday, just in time for the holiday season.

The new grocery store is 56,998 square feet and is in the Laguna Reserve Marketplace on 10050 Bruceville Road, which is already home to a Round Table Pizza and Bank of America.

According to a press release, the store is estimated to create 150 new jobs and will be open from 5 -12 a.m. daily.

This is the third Safeway in Elk Grove. It will offer a full-service butcher, bakery, an in-store Starbucks and a pharmacy. Customers will be able to schedule grocery pick-ups through the Safeway mobile app.

“If you're looking to make a recipe from scratch. We have all the ingredients that you need,” said Wendy Gutshall, the Director of Public and Government Affairs for Safeway.

Gutshall said they chose this location because the local community needed a “convenient place” for neighbors to shop adding their next closest store was four miles away.

Safeway is offering a limited-time prize wheel promotion to commemorate the grand opening, customers can spin the wheel for a chance to win deals.

The store will officially open at 3 p.m., at the grand opening ceremony, Safeway will donate $5,000 to the Elk Grove Food Bank.
