SAN FRANCISCO — On the football field, San Francisco 49er Arik Armstead is a 280-pound specimen who tries to get to the quarterback and punish him. But off the field, the Sacramento native is one of the kindest individuals around and committed to making the world a better place.
On Tuesday, Armstead was nominated for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award for the fourth consecutive year. This award is one of the most prestigious honors and acknowledges NFL players who excel on the field, in addition to creating positive impact in their communities. Armstead exemplifies both of those qualities.
Through his foundation, the Armstead Academic Project, he has helped raise and personally donated over $2 million to Sacramento and Bay Area youth. Through his foundation, Armstead hosts story times, youth football camps, college field trips, provides school supplies and so much more.
The award will be announced on February 8.
While Armstead has yet to win the award despite his nominations, he was recognized with a Key to the City for Sacramento earlier this year.
