Esquire IMAX Theatre to celebrate World Zombie Day with release of Sacramento-filmed 'Fingers'

'Fingers' is a movie about a vegan zombie that was filmed in Sacramento.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — World Zombie Day is coming up on October 13 and what better way than to celebrate with a movie about zombies filmed in Sacramento?

'Fingers' is a horror-based comedy movie by Belton Mouras Entertainment. The plot follows zombies who attempt to recover from their infection so they can interact in the common world. Esquire IMAX Theatre will hold three screenings of the film on Sunday, Oct. 13.

ABC10's Mark S. Allen caught up with Belton Mouras Jr, the writer and director of the film.

HERE ARE 3 THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. October 13th is World Zombie Day! The day was dedicated to the ghoulish creature back in 2006 following the Pittsburg Zombie Walk at Monroeville Mall, the mall used in George Romero's 1978 film "Dawn of the Dead." The day is typically celebrated on October 13 every year, but has occasionally landed outside of its target date.

  2. 'Fingers' was filmed in Sacramento. Belton Mouras Entertainment and Belton Mouras Jr. himself are local to the Sacramento regional area, so what better place to film than home? The film is also having its debut screening in Sacramento at the Esquire IMAX Theatre.

  3. Despite the film being about zombies, the intention behind 'Fingers' was always to have fun. It did have some real-world inspiration, though. "We wanted to have some fun," Mouras explained to Mark. "I was vegetarian when I first wrote this and I wanted to just have some fun with what could a zombie really be like to be a vegetarian. How would that story unfold and it became hilarious."
