YUBA CITY, Calif. — A former Yuba City church administrator was convicted Monday of stealing more than $360,000 from her parish in a years-long embezzlement scheme.
According to federal prosecutors, 38-year-old Chanell Easton of Oklahoma City worked at the church from 2013 to 2018.
She stole from the food pantry, youth ministry and used credit cards associated with the church to make purchases at a hair salon, store, a vacation rental service and to buy VIP concert tickets.
One credit card Easton used reportedly belonged to the church's youth minister, who federal prosecutors say helped obscure the embezzlement and shift suspicion away from herself.
Easton is scheduled to be sentenced for two counts of aggravated identity theft on June 25 and faces up to 20 years in prison.
