The Sacramento County Coroner's Office has identified one of the two victims who died when a car struck a tree Sunday in Carmichael.
Artyom Becher, 29, was the passenger in the car. The driver was in her 20s; her name has not been released.
The crash occurred at about 10 a.m. Sunday at Walnut and Marconi avenues. Witnesses said the car was traveling southbound on Walnut Avenue at a high speed when the driver lost control, crossed over the northbound lanes and struck a tree.
"I had seen the driver and the passengers hand going over, across in the car, so I believe there was some type of confrontation," said Bridget Rider, a witness to the crash.
Witnesses said they rushed over to the car when it caught fire after the crash, but there was nothing they could do for the victims.
"I heard no movement, no cries, nobody seemed conscious. It was fatal," Rider said.
The California Highway Patrol said both the driver and passenger were wearing their seat belts.
