FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A teenage student was arrested in connection with a prank call that forced multiple schools to go on lockdown in Fairfield Friday.
The Fairfield Police Department said Vanden High School and two nearby schools were put on a precautionary lockdown after someone reported a person with a gun at the school Feb. 2.
Police said the call was identified as a "swatting" incident, where the prank caller tries to get a big police response at a certain address.
As the investigation continued, police identified the suspected caller as a 15-year-old Vanden High student. The teenager was arrested at his home Feb. 6 and booked into juvenile hall.
"The Fairfield Police Department does not tolerate behaviors that waste our community’s time and resources, such as this “SWATting” incident. Actions like these - particularly those that incite fear and panic- aren’t humorous and can have consequences. Please, think before you act," police said in a news release.
