Update | CHP officer killed: "Would give you the shirt off his back"

CHP has confirmed Officer Kirk Griess ​​​​has died. He was thrown from the motorcycle after being involved in this morning's crash.

5:00 p.m. update:

The California Association of Highway Patrolman (CAHP) has created a memorial fund in honor of fallen CHP Motor Officer Kirk Griess.

Griess was killed after he was thrown from his motorcycle during a crash Friday morning.

Donations can be made through the CAHP Credit Union website. The memorial fund will be given to Griess' family. The former Marine Corps veteran is survive by his wife, two daughters, 25 and 21, and 14-year-old son.

2:30 p.m. update: During a press conference on Friday afternoon, a CHP official said that the driver of the Saturn, a 49-year-old from Vallejo, has died from his injuries.

1:50 p.m. update: ABC10's Giacomo Luca spoke with a family friend of Officer Greiss. Elizabeth Heffernan, who has known Greiss for 16 years, said Greiss was the kind of person who "would give you the shirt off his back."

Noon update: CHP has confirmed Officer Kirk Griess ​​​​has died. He was thrown from the motorcycle after being involved in this morning's crash.

According to CHP – Golden Gate, around 9 a.m. a CHP motorcycle officer was in the process of conducting a traffic stop with a Saturn SUV on the shoulder of westbound I-80 when, for a still unknown reason, a pickup truck crashed into the CHP officer and Saturn.

Everyone involved in the accident was transported to a hospital.

The investigation of the crash is ongoing. Motorists are recommended to take an alternative route.

A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was injured in a collision involving a truck.

According to ABC7, the accident happened near Fairfield on Friday morning during rush hour traffic. The officer's condition is not known at this time, however, ABC7 is reporting the officer was thrown from the motorcycle over a guardrail.

CHP is advising motorists to expect delays along westbound I-80 near Campos Parkway. The accident happened on westbound I-80 at North Texas Street.
