FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Fairfield’s Planning Commission unanimously approved plans for another Starbucks on Travis Boulevard Wednesday.
The new location will be within a mile of three other Starbucks locations, a Peet’s Coffee and a Dutch Bros Coffee on top of other restaurants which serve coffee and similar items.
The motion passed with additions for the applicant to work with staff on widening parking spaces where feasible and changing exterior decoration on the southeast side of the building.
Commissioners were still concerned about traffic and the proximity to similar coffee shops in the area.
A Starbucks franchise owner of 20 years said during the meeting that they want to build in this spot to “take some pressure off (nearby Starbucks) and offer something to the customer that doesn't just rely on the drive-thru.”
The land owner, who owns the gas station on the lot, said she thinks it will benefit all businesses on the corner.
The project plans to have a drive-thru with two entrances along with a typical Starbucks dining interior. An estimated 25 to 30 people will be hired for the location once opened. Hours of operation were requested to be from 4 a.m. to midnight but may change.
The development will be at 2980 Travis Boulevard where popular Thai restaurant Bintoh Thai currently is.
ABC10 reached out to the owners of Bintoh Thai but have not heard back as of publishing. They have not indicated anywhere online if they will be closing. The presenter of the request said in the meeting the existing building will be demolished to create the Starbucks.
