Fairfield police searching for man accused of trying to assault 12-year-olds walking to school

Police say two 12-year-olds were walking along the bike path between Meadowlark Drive and East Tabor Avenue around 8:30 a.m. when it happened.

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Fairfield police are searching for a man who allegedly attempted to assault two children while they were walking to school Wednesday morning.

The Fairfield Police Department says two 12-year-olds were walking along the bike path between Meadowlark Drive and East Tabor Avenue around 8:30 a.m. when a man riding a BMX-style bike came up to and tried to assault them. 

Police say the children were "able to fight him off" and reported it to the school once getting onto campus. A search is underway for a man police describe as a "dark-skinned, Hispanic man wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans."

Police say they will have officers in the area searching for the man. Drones, motorcycle officers and patrolling officers will be in the area after school. 

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect are asked by police to call them at 707-428-7300, option 8.

It's unclear if anyone was injured and an investigation is ongoing. No other information is available at this time.
