Man dies after being shot during police standoff in Fairfield, officials say.

Two relatives were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

FAIRFIELD, Calif — A man has died after being shot during a standoff with Fairfield police officers, authorities say.

On Friday at around 6:30 p.m., multiple people reported a 58-year-old man had harmed family members at a home on the 2800 block of Elmhurst Circle. Reports said he was also threatening to burn the house down, police say.

Two of the man’s relatives, a man and a woman, managed to escape to a neighbor’s house, police say. Calls then came in reporting the man was armed with a shotgun and was threatening to harm others.

When officers arrived at the home, they deployed a Bearcat armored vehicle to approach the armed man.

Officers were forming a de-escalation plan when the man pointed a gun at them from a second-story window of the house, which led to officers shooting the man, officials say.

The man retreated into the home after being shot, where he was later found dead.

The man’s name has not yet been released. His two relatives were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries, officials say.
