Originally, police said the man died in a single-vehicle crash but found a bullet during the autopsy.

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — An Oakland man's death is now being investigated as a homicide, the Fairfield Police Department said Tuesday.

Originally, police said the man died in a single-vehicle crash but a bullet was found during the autopsy. Now police are investigating the deadly shooting.

Around 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 13, a truck was found off the road near Cement Hill Road, west of Peabody Road. The police department said evidence suggested the crash happened the evening of Oct. 12, but the truck wasn't found until the next morning. The 44-year-old man from Oakland died at the scene.
