FOLSOM, Calif. — The search is on for a new Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) superintendent.
Last month, the FCUSD announced its current superintendent, Sarah Koligian, will retire in June. She made the decision to retire now because she believes she’s leaving the school district in strong, highly-qualified hands, according to a district news release.
“I’m honored to have led a district of remarkable and caring certificated, classified and administrative staff who make each day a great day for students to learn,” she said. “When we see students thriving in class, graduating from high school and becoming the best version of themselves, it’s a result of the people in their lives.”
The FCUSD announced Wednesday it is partnering with the search firm McPherson & Jacobson LLC to assist in finding its next superintendent.
Stakeholder input sessions for staff and parents started Monday and last until Thursday, Feb. 15, according to an FCUSD social media post. The sessions last one hour and guests can attend virtually or in person.
The session schedule can be found HERE.
Should parents and staff be unable to attend sessions, they can take a district survey HERE.
Stakeholder responses are included in an anonymous report that will be presented to the FCUSD board March 7 and shared on its website to help in superintendent selection, the district said.
Koligian began her teaching career working as a resource teacher at Madison Elementary School in the Central Unified School District in Fresno, according to an FCUSD news release. She then held various administrative positions in the district.
In 2007, she was hired as superintendent of Golden Valley Unified School District in Madera County, the release said. In 2011, she became superintendent of the Tulare Joint Union High School District.
She’s led the FCUSD since 2017, the release said. She earned “Superintendent of the Year” recognition in 2021 from the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA).
“In her seven years as superintendent of FCUSD, (Koligian) has navigated unprecedented challenges,” said FCUSD board president Tim Hooey. “Through each obstacle, her devotion to the students of FCUSD has remained at the forefront. While we will miss her steady hand, desire for every student to succeed and wisdom, we are excited for her to begin this next phase of her life.”
