FOLSOM, Calif. — Four-time Grammy Award-winning drummer and contemporary artist Zakir Hussain is coming to Folsom.
He will visit the Harris Center at Folsom Lake College on his “Tisra” tour at 7:30 p.m. on April 24. Folsom is one of the last few stops on his tour, which begins Friday in the Chicago suburbs of Illinois.
Hussain is famous for playing the tabla, a pair of hand drums often associated with music from north India, and he will tour the United States and Canada during spring 2024.
Sabir Khan, who plays the stringed sarangi, and Debopriya Chatterjee, who plays the bamboo bansuri flute, will join Hussain on tour.
Fans can catch the Tisra tour in these other California cities prior to its showing in Folsom:
- Thousand Oaks – April 20
- San Ramon – April 21
- Saratoga – April 23
Hussain won his first Grammy in 2009 for Best Contemporary World Music Album with “Global Drum Project.” He won three more last month at the 66th Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance.
He has been nominated for seven Grammys throughout his career. He was first up for Best World Music Album with “Raga Aberi” at the 38th Grammys in 1996.
