Highway 50 on-ramp construction in Folsom aims to reduce traffic

Construction will happen 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from March through May to improve traffic flow at the Iron Point Road and East Bidwell Street intersection.

FOLSOM, Calif. — Nighttime work in Folsom is expected to cause noise disturbances, intermittent closures and detours through May, the city announced Tuesday.

Construction will happen 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from now until May to improve traffic flow at the Iron Point Road and East Bidwell Street intersection, according to Christine Brainerd, a city spokeswoman. The project aims to reduce wait times on Iron Point Road between East Bidwell Street and Cavitt Drive.

The on-ramp may be partially or fully closed during this time, she said. Vehicles will be detoured from Iron Point Road to Prairie City Road to access the Highway 50 on-ramp.

“The city does not anticipate the project will create significant traffic delays, but the work may cause some noise disturbances,” Brainerd said in a news release. “Message boards will alert motorists about the project and detours.”

Brainerd said the project will:

  • Add a third left turn lane from westbound Iron Point Road to southbound East Bidwell Street, easing access to Highway 50.
  • Convert the westbound Highway 50 on-ramp carpool lane to a metered, general-purpose lane.
  • Restripe the on-ramp to add an additional lane onto westbound Highway 50.
