Man found at bottom of 'steep embankment' near Lake Natoma identified

Officials say they got multiple calls around 3:30 p.m. about a body at the bottom of a steep embankment in the area of Black Miners Bar.

FOLSOM, Calif. — A man's body was found at Lake Natoma Tuesday afternoon, according to the California State Parks officials.

Officials say they got multiple calls around 3:30 p.m. about a body at the bottom of a steep embankment in the area of Black Miners Bar. An investigation is underway, but officials say he most likely fell.

The man was identified Wednesday as 27-year-old Nicholas Baker.

"It's surprising, I mean there are signs posted everywhere for people not to be on here but I mean you can't really control what people do. This has never happened here before," said Roscoe Wimberly, a park visitor of 10 years.

An official cause of death is being investigated.

"It could be an incident where the person thought it was more ledge than there actually was, or a situation where they just kinda wandered over there fell. Went to high. But it's just sad to hear," said Wimberly.

Residents say there's a popular spot called "the ledge," which is protected by a fence and has "closed area, keep out" signs around it. The barriers and warnings don't keep some out of the area, though.

"I know it's scary with the fences being cut out. They come out here repeatedly and fix it. Then it happens again. I don't know what the solving problem for that would be," said resident Dennis Lane.

An investigation is ongoing and no other information is available at this time.
