Family of a man missing following a boating accident have closure after his body was recovered from the depths of Camp Far West Lake Wednesday, following more than a week of searching.
Dustin Connor, of Orangevale, along with five others were sent into the lake’s waters after a May 29 boating accident. All but Connor were rescued following the accident.
Placer County sheriff’s Tahoe dive team recovered Connor’s body among the wreckage of the boat more than 115 feet below lake surface.
Aside from the frigid 44-degree water, crews had to deal with a pitch dark environment and mechanical malfunctions before finally finding Connor and the remains of the boat, deputies said.
Divers used hard helmets to allow them longer time at the bottom of the lake for a more effective search, sheriff’s officials said. Side-scan sonar, was also used to map the lake's bottom.
