Here’s why Cal Fire helicopters are flying over Folsom Lake in March

Residents should be aware of low-flying aircraft over Folsom Lake and nearby neighborhoods this month.

FOLSOM, Calif. — Cal Fire announced Thursday it will be conducting helicopter drills from late February through March.

On Facebook, the state organization said it will be conducting night vision training during the next several weeks over Folsom Lake and nearby neighborhoods in Folsom, El Dorado and Placer counties. The Placer County Sheriff's Office reposted Cal Fire's announcement late Thursday night.

Roughly three to four helicopters will be in operation from sunset to around 10 p.m. each night during the following dates:

  • Feb. 26 to March 1
  • March 18-22
  • March 25-29

“Residents are advised to be aware of low-flying aircraft…,” Cal Fire wrote in its post.
