FOLSOM, Calif. — A Folsom wedding took place at a retirement home Sunday, so the groom’s elderly grandmother didn’t have to travel.
Judy Bryant, 99, was one of over 50 guests at the wedding of William Bryant, of Auburn, and his bride April Rose, of Citrus Heights, at Creekside Oaks in Folsom, according to family spokeswoman Erin Peacock.
The couple chose the retirement community as the wedding venue so “Grandma Judy B” wouldn’t have to travel at 99. She turns 100 in October, Peacock said.
Rose has worked in the kitchen at Creekside Oaks for roughly 10 years, and the elderly Bryant will celebrate 15 years as a resident in July, according to Creekside Oaks spokeswoman Becca Nelson.
Nelson said Bryant actually set up her grandson, William, with Rose. The couple met at the retirement home.
“April and Judy have a very good connection,” Nelson said. “The perception was that Judy was April’s grandmother, but that’s not actually the case.”
After 10 years working at Creekside Oaks, it made sense to have the wedding at the home so Rose could surround herself with the people she sees everyday, whom she considers family, Nelson said.
