PLACERVILLE, Calif — The El Dorado County Fair in Placerville runs Thursday through Sunday.
The fair begins Thursday, June 13, and concludes Sunday, June 16. This year’s theme is “barrows, boots and bling,” according to the event’s website.
Gates for the fair are open noon to midnight Thursday, Friday and Saturday; they are open noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. Each day, the exhibit buildings close at 9 p.m. and the commercial building closes at 10 p.m.
Presale general admission costs $10, but during the fair it costs $12.
Patrons can purchase presale tickets at a discounted rate by June 12, and prices go up from anywhere between $2-$10 if they are purchased at the time of the fair itself. A complete list of ticket prices can be found HERE.
Kathy Dunkak is the CEO of the El Dorado County Fair and Event Center. She said there are events all four nights in the fair’s grandstands, including but not limited to:
- FMX Rampage on Thursday.
- Truck-and-tractor pull on Friday.
- The Grandstand’s 80th-annual wheelbarrow races on Saturday.
- A Jeep Rubicon obstacle course challenge on Sunday.
The FMX Rampage and truck-and-tractor pulls may require an additional ticket, Dunkak said.
Other events, like the educational animal act named “Wild About Monkeys,” can be found HERE.
Dunkak said the fair’s famous 20-30 Club Tacos will be returning.
“We have plenty of fun fair food, funnel cakes, deep fried Oreos, corn dogs (and) all the good stuff,” Dunkak told ABC10.
The first recorded fair in El Dorado County was held in 1859 in Coloma, according to a history on the fair’s website. Until 1939, the fair was held at various locations including Coloma, Diamond Springs and downtown Placerville.
In the fair’s early days, the entire town where the fair was held became known as the Fairgrounds.
