Folsom traffic impacts extended at Blue Ravine Road due to pipeline project

Due to unforeseen trench conditions and underground utility conflicts, traffic impacts at Folsom Boulevard and Blue Ravine road are expected until Wednesday.

FOLSOM, Calif. — Traffic impacts at Folsom Boulevard and Blue Ravine Road due to a pipeline construction project in Folsom have extended through Wednesday.

Due to unforeseen trench conditions and underground utility conflicts at the construction site, traffic impacts at Folsom Boulevard and Blue Ravine Road are expected until Wednesday, the Folsom Police Department said around 1 p.m. Monday.

Traffic impacts include:

  • Southbound traffic on Folsom Boulevard reduced to one lane
  • Northbound traffic on Folsom Boulevard reduced to one lane
  • Blue Ravine Road closed at the intersection of Folsom Boulevard
  • Left-hand turns in all directions closed
  • Right-hand turns in all directions open

Police said motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes, and westbound Blue Ravine Road traffic can take Prairie City Road or Natoma Station Drive to access southbound Folsom Boulevard.

Pipeline construction history

Folsom’s pipeline construction project began July 2023, the city said. Phase 1 and Phase 2 work, which impacted Folsom Boulevard between Woodmere Road and Bidwell Street, was completed December 2023.

The project is now in Phase 4, which is expected to impact the intersection of Folsom Boulevard and Blue Ravine Road, according to the city. Phases 3 and 4 require relocating a portion of the water line in the intersection at Blue Ravine Road and Folsom Boulevard.

Relocation allows for the repair of a sewer line necessary to improve the line’s hydraulics during both average dry weather flow conditions and peak wet weather flow conditions, the city said.

The improvement was identified by the city’s sewer capacity assurance plan analysis and helps Folsom meet the California Regional Water Quality Control Board waste discharge requirements, officials said.
