FOLSOM, Calif. — A man is facing an attempted murder charge after attacking another man with a pickaxe Thursday in Folsom, police say.
Just before 8 a.m., officers with the Folsom Police Department responded to reports of a man attacking people with a pickaxe at Folsom City Lions Park, according to a department news release.
Police said the man allegedly struck another man, and the victim was taken to the hospital for arm lacerations and a shoulder puncture wound.
The suspect, later identified as Nicholas James Impellezzeri, 20, allegedly dropped the pickaxe after the attack and fled on foot to the nearby Johnny Cash Trail, police said.
Police said they located Impellezzeri near the 200 block of Leidesdorff Street and safely took him into custody. Officers said they learned he had been banned from a local shelter Wednesday night.
Impellezzeri was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail just before 1 p.m. Thursday, jail records show. He faces a felony attempted murder charge and a felony deadly weapon assault charge, records show.
He is ineligible for bail and expected to appear in Sacramento County Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon, according to jail records.
