Jay Leno to perform in Folsom. Harris Center show will celebrate college’s 20th anniversary

Folsom Lake College celebrates the milestone with a special event starring Jay Leno at the Harris Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 7.

FOLSOM, Calif. — Folsom Lake College (FLC) will host Jay Leno in September as part of its 20th-anniversary celebration.

On Jan. 9, FLC celebrated 20 years to the day its initial accreditation as a community college, ABC10 previously reported. Continuing the celebration, FLC is celebrating the milestone again with a special event starring Leno at the Harris Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 7.

The event will also feature a “Celebration Sip & Stroll” prior to Leno’s show with eight food and wine stations from 5:30-7 p.m. in the lobby of the Harris Center. An after party will be held at the Palladio shopping center.

Harris Center members will have first access to purchase tickets after 8 p.m. June 11. Tickets will be available to the general public starting June 20.

Leno, 74, hosted “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” from 1992-2014. He won his first Primetime Emmy in 1995 for the show in the outstanding variety, music or comedy series category. He won his second in 2011 for “Jay Leno’s Garage,” an online series where he profiles cars and motorcycles, in the outstanding special class, short-format nonfiction programs category.

He is a stand-up comedian, children’s book author, corporate speaker, TV and movie voice-over artist, mechanic and philanthropist, according to the Harris Center. He is reportedly the first person to drive the pace car for all major NASCAR events.

FLC opened on Jan. 9, 2004, but the city of Folsom donated a 151-acre parcel of land to the Los Rios Community College district to be preserved for a future college site in 1967, according to the college’s website.

A Folsom Lake Center opened in 1993 as an educational branch of Cosumnes River College, which joined the Los Rios district in 1970. Folsom Lake Center’s first permanent structure, Aspen Hall, was built in 1999.

In 2004, FLC became the 109th community college in California and the fourth Los Rios college.
