FOLSOM, Calif. — A statue of a Johnny Cash guitar pick is nearing completion in Folsom.
Located at the Johnny Cash Trail entrance between Greenback Lane and Leidesdorff Street, site construction for the seven-foot tall black bronze “Cash’s Pick” will be completed in June, and the pick itself will be installed in August to complete the project, according to Christine Brainerd, a city spokeswoman.
On Friday, May 3, the Johnny Cash Trail account on X, formerly Twitter, posted photos of the project’s progress.
“Visitors to the Johnny Cash Trail this week may spot some exciting progress,” the organization wrote in the post. “The construction crew with Central Valley Engineering and Asphalt is building the record deck that will form the base of the art experience for Cash's Pick No. 1.”
Johnny Cash Trail, Folsom update
There are two installments of the piece slated to mark the beginning and end of the trail, so whichever direction you choose to go, the journey always begins with Cash’s Pick, the trail’s website said.
Folsom opened Johnny Cash Trail on Oct. 14, 2017. It’s a bike and pedestrian trail connecting the Historic District to the Folsom Lake Crossing trail.
Trail supporters can make tax-deductible cash donations, buy a limited-edition commemorative "JCASH 50" license plate or purchase a donor wall plaque to aid the trail’s projects and upkeep. A preview of the donor wall, another statuesque monument, can be viewed HERE.
Cash’s Pick and the donor wall are two of seven planned structures around Folsom and the trail. Artists include Romo Studios LLC, Fine Art Studios of Rotblatt-Amrany and RRM Design Group.
