FOLSOM, Calif. — A man was arrested and accused of elder abuse after a five-hour standoff with law enforcement Thursday morning in Folsom.
Around 8:15 a.m., an 80-year-old man reported being attacked, knocked down and kicked in the head on Corrigan Court near Livermore Community Park, according to a Folsom Police Department news release. The man suffered minor injuries and was treated at the hospital, police said.
Officers identified Nashad Nisham Hamedeh, 31, of Folsom, as the suspect and located him inside his house. He allegedly refused to come out and threatened to shoot police, the department said.
Police said SWAT and crisis negotiations teams were called, and they determined Hamedeh appeared to arm himself with various weapons including firearms.
Suspected firearms later turned out to be replica firearms, authorities said.
Around 1:30 p.m., officers deployed tear gas, and Hamedeh subsequently surrendered, police said.
Hamedeh was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail, and he faces charges including battery, elder abuse and resisting police, according to law enforcement.
He faces an additional probation violation charge, police said. It is unclear why Hamedeh was on probation.
