Man arrested at Folsom elementary school ordered to stay away, cannot possess firearms | Update

Police said when they drove to the school and met with the man, they recognized him.

FOLSOM, Calif. — Folsom police said they found firearms, magazines and ammunition after searching the home of a 62-year-old man arrested Monday at a Folsom school on an outstanding weapon possession warrant , authorities said.

Officers with the Folsom Police Department said they responded to employee reports of a man asking “odd questions” and taking photos of Blanche Sprentz Elementary School on Flower Drive before he came into the school’s office, the department said in a Facebook post.

Police said they drove to the school, met with the man and recognized him.

Officers identified the 62-year-old as Peining Wang, of Folsom, and it was in conversation with him they discovered he had an outstanding arrest warrant in connection with assault weapon possession, police said.

While Wang was not armed at the school, police said the warrant stemmed from Wang turning in a firearm to the Folsom Police Department months earlier. The firearm was later determined to be an illegal weapon, police said.

In a separate Facebook post Thursday, the department said officers conducted a probation search at Wang's residence, which allegedly recovered three firearms, multiple loaded and unloaded magazines and rounds of ammunition.

“Wang was not armed and did not commit any other crime while on campus,” police said in a statement.

Police said officers arrested Wang and booked him into Sacramento County Main Jail.

Jail records show Wang was released later Monday.

Wang was arraigned in Sacramento County Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon, police said. During the arraignment, Wang was placed on pretrial probation with stay-away orders from all Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) schools, and he is prohibited from possessing firearms, according to the department.

Police said law enforcement is monitoring the case and working with FCUSD employees to ensure a safe and distraction-free environment for students.
