The Cave brings new life, nostalgia to old Dimple Records location in Folsom

Located in Folsom, The Cave is in the old Dimple Records location and was started by Andrew Radakovitz and his business partner Erie Loch.

FOLSOM, Calif. — A brand new store has taken root on Bidwell Street where the former Dimple Records once stood.

Andrew Radakovitz and his partner Erie Loch wanted to give life to a concept they had while working and learning from the music business. Radakovitz is the son of Dimple Records co-founders John and Dilyn Radakovitz, who opened Dimple Records in 1974 before shuttering its doors in September 2019.

"I feel like I'm a pirate on the pirate ship, looking for the treasures," Radakovitz explained. "And everybody's got that stuff. It may not be the most valuable stuff, but, to some people, it is valuable."

It's called The Cave and it's a buy, sell, and trade store. The shelves are lined with collectibles, records, vintage clothing, toys, musical instruments and even Japanese snacks. Radakovitz said there's a little something for everyone.

Anthony Nave and his mother, Carrie Nave, were browsing the selection. After Carrie Nave spent the morning at the DMV, she was looking to decompress.

She was thrilled to see the records and CD's she remembered from her past along with the collector's items, while her son was drawn into the store by the posters.

"It was the posters featuring the comic books in the window that first caught my eye," Anthony Nave admitted. "And my mom had mentioned they sold old fashioned records here, but that wasn't brought up before - that there was all these other things too."

"What I'm finding with parents is they're bringing in their kids, and they go through records together," Radakovitz said. "And they have this relationship where the parent is sharing with their kids what they liked when they were young. And the kids, they key off their parent."

Noah Bingaman and Bayleigh Mark brought their son Hudson to see what treasures they could find.

"We just happened to be in the area, and I'm a huge Dimple records fan," Bingaman said. "I've been shopping here since I was little, and I was kind of bummed that they shut down. Then, when I noticed The Cave, I looked in the window and couldn't help but come in."

"His favorite band is Papa Roach, and he loves Jacobie from Papa Roach. And, he found a really cool drum head signed by him for five bucks," blurted his son Mark. "It was a bargain."

Loch said the short time the store has been open has already exceeded everyone's expectations.

"You get this point you hope will happen, and it's been at least double that, so far, and we're not even starting to build," Loch said. "A lot of people don't even know we're here yet."
