FOLSOM, Calif. — Businesses have lots to consider when deciding whether to be open on Thanksgiving.
Coffee Republic, a café in Folsom, asked its employees if anyone wanted to work on Thanksgiving. The small business opened in February on Folsom-Auburn Road.
One of its owners, Ken Kremesec, said enough employees said, ‘yes,’ and the shop will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the holiday.
“If we didn’t have employees that wanted to do it, then we would have closed,” Kremesec said.
He said, through the coffee shop, he and his family are meeting a lot of wonderful people.
“There’s a lot of people out there that maybe don’t have a family or the opportunity to share Thanksgiving,” Kremesec said. “Our employees volunteer to work Thanksgiving to just be there. We feel like we are part of the community.”
One of the store’s regulars will even join Kremesec's family at their house for dinner, he said.
