FOLSOM, Calif. — Powerhouse Pub, a bar and entertainment center in Folsom, celebrated its 25th anniversary this month.
The Sutter Street staple hosted its grand opening on May 1, 1999, according to owner Nazaria Nguyen. Murray Weaver, the space’s property owner, bought the building in 1989. Weaver closed the Powerhouse Pub business in 2017, and Powerhouse Entertainment Company was opened the same year by Nguyen.
Nguyen said the pub’s recipe for 25 years of success lies in its variety of amenities and a strong staff. The pub offers a large spirits collection with ever-changing cocktails, and all genres of live music and DJs can be enjoyed on three different staging areas, she said.
Powerhouse Pub began with one bar and one stage, she said. Now, there’s five bars, three stages and two patios.
Its controlled-chaos party environment provides patrons with sensory overload that is impossible to forget, but staff also operate with an emphasis on safety and security, she said. There is reportedly always an owner on site.
Sutter Street has seen huge revitalization and growth in Powerhouse’s 25 years, and Nguyen said this was thanks to great people including Folsom City Council and Choose Folsom, the city’s chamber of commerce.
“The Folsom Chamber has been extremely proactive in assisting all aspects of commerce especially here in the Historic District,” the business told ABC10. “They have areas of expertise focusing on tourism, community development, member (acquisition) and events.”
Joe Gagliardi, president of Choose Folsom, said those at Powerhouse Pub have been incredible partners over the years.
“The Powerhouse Pub has been an incredible addition to the community of Folsom,” Gagliardi told ABC10. The Folsom Chamber of Commerce has enjoyed our partnership with the Powerhouse Pub and Murray Weaver.”
In the next 25 years, Nguyen said she wants to continue participating in Folsom’s great community.
Powerhouse Pub is located at 614 Sutter Street, Suite D.
It’s open Tuesday through Friday 5 p.m.-1 a.m., Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m.-1:15 a.m. and closed Mondays.
