'Hold drug dealers accountable': Folsom police arrest man after suspected fentanyl overdose

Folsom police officers responded Friday to a suspected fentanyl overdose on Sutter Street. Now, the man suspected to be responsible faces a murder charge.

FOLSOM, Calif. — A Folsom man is facing a murder charge after a suspected fentanyl overdose.

After midnight Friday, officers with the Folsom Police Department responded to a suspected fentanyl death on the 400 block of Sutter Street, according to a department social media post

First responders administered Narcan and attempted other lifesaving efforts, but the 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said further investigation identified Ruslan Kochkin, 35, of Folsom, as a suspect.

Upon Kochkin’s arrest, authorities said approximately 1 ounce of fentanyl and 1 ounce of methamphetamine were recovered, according to the post.

Kochkin was booked Saturday into Sacramento County Main Jail, records show.

He faces murder and drug possession charges, he is ineligible for bail and he expected to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.

Kochkin’s murder charge came Tuesday from the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, according to Folsom police.

“This is the fourth case in less than a year that (detectives) have successfully filed homicide charges against a drug dealer,” the Folsom Police Department said in a statement Tuesday. “We will continue to do everything in our power to hold drug dealers accountable for the lives they take.”

Police said if you or a loved one suffer from drug addiction, "please ask for help."
