Woman accused of criminal threats after social posts raised concerns at Folsom schools

Security increased at Carl Sundahl Elementary and Sutter Middle schools in the Folsom Cordova district after a parent posted inappropriate content to social media.

FOLSOM, Calif. — Police arrested a woman on suspicion of criminal threats and a restraining order violation in connection to posts that raised safety concerns at Folsom schools.

Folsom police launched an investigation after the woman, also described as a parent, reportedly posted inappropriate content to social media, raising safety concerns at two institutions within the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD). Neither police nor school officials will offer specifics on what the threat is.

Parents and staff at Carl Sundahl Elementary School and Sutter Middle School were told Thursday in a statement by Superintendent Erik Swanson the FCUSD were working with the Folsom Police Department to keep this parent away from the schools after what they posted. The schools’ principals sent messages about the situation Wednesday to families and staff.

“We are aware that a parent in our community, who is highly active on social media, has been posting inappropriate content that is causing significant concern among our parents,” Swanson said. “Both FCUSD and Folsom police are taking steps to keep this parent away from our schools. Because this is an active investigation, neither we nor law enforcement can release details or answer specific questions about the many steps being taken in this situation.”

In addition to working with police, the district reportedly sent extra staff to the campuses to monitor the situation and provide an increased adult presence. An ABC10 reporter witnessed police Thursday at Carl Sundahl.

“Points of access are being closed and/or monitored and cameras are posted throughout the campuses to add additional security,” Swanson wrote in his statement. “In response to this concern, we have sent additional mental health professionals to the schools for any student or staff needing extra support.”

He said the district will continue to implement all necessary security measures to ensure students and families feel safe and supported. All FCUSD schools began instruction three weeks ago.

Spokespersons from both the school district and police department declined interviews Thursday with ABC10.

Folsom police echoed the school district’s statement on social media Wednesday night and said they can’t release details or answer specific questions, but they believe they have taken reasonable steps to address the concerns and constantly monitor the situation.

“We know the ‘unknown’ threat is concerning,” the department said. “Please do not call our dispatch center to ask for details. We need to reserve those lines for people who need a police response, and the dispatchers will not be able to provide you with any additional information.”

On Thursday evening, police arrested Sara Zamani, 44 of Folsom, on suspicion of criminal threats and violation of a restraining order. She is being held without bail.
