3 Folsom teens flash toy rifle in ding-dong ditch prank: 'Outcome could have been very different'

Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, three teens reportedly played a ding-dong ditch prank at a house near Livermore Park. One holding a toy rifle pointed it at the door.

FOLSOM, Calif. — Three teenagers in Folsom reportedly ding-dong ditched with a toy rifle, which one of them pointed at a front door, authorities said.

Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, three children around ages 13-15 performed a ding-dong ditch prank at a house in the Livermore Park neighborhood, according to Folsom Police Department spokesman Detective Andrew Graham. The teenager holding the toy rifle reportedly pointed it at the door.

Graham said from Ring camera footage the department viewed, law enforcement determined the incident is not a police matter. The child appeared to carry a lightweight, small rifle toy, leading officers to believe it was something not capable of firing a projectile, he said.

There was no crime committed in the footage, according to law enforcement.

Officers were notified of the incident around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

“It’s disheartening to see, that’s for sure,” Graham told ABC10. “We encourage parents to speak with kids. Have discussions with your children about potentially (what) could have gone very badly.”

Graham said while no crime may have been committed, authorities discourage the teenagers’ behavior.

“There are residents who exercise their Second Amendment right,” he said. “If somebody comes up to your house with what appears to be a firearm… the outcome could have been very different for these kids.”
