Former San Joaquin County court clerk arrested for disobeying court order

The district attorney's office says Pamela Edwards, a 27-year employee of the court, unlawfully released a sealed warrant in a public corruption investigation.

STOCKTON, Calif. — A former San Joaquin County court clerk was arrested Thursday after she allegedly disobeyed a court order by releasing a sealed warrant.

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, a sealed warrant related to a potential public corruption investigation was released to a Stockton Record reporter in violation of a court order in Nov. 2023.

The sheriff’s office says its investigation found the person responsible was a 27-year employee of the court who is, or was, neighbors with the reporter who received the warrant. The district attorney’s office identified the person allegedly responsible as Pamela Edwards.

An arrest warrant for misdemeanor disobeying a court order for Edwards was signed and executed Thursday. She is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 4.

“Violating the sanctity of a Court Order, especially a sealed warrant, is not only an assault on our justice system but puts law enforcement and potential witnesses in harm’s way. This District Attorney’s Office will not tolerate this betrayal of justice, especially by someone who had spent 27 years sworn to uphold the very law they are alleged to have violated. We will hold all those involved in this case fully responsible for this violation of our courts and our justice system,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas.
