Rocklin police are getting kudos online, and in real life, for rescuing a missing 82-year-old woman who had fallen into a ravine.
Maria Lazama had not been seen in 24 hours when police searched for her Tuesday morning. Family told police Lazama has the mental capacity of an 8-year-old and needs medication.
When police found Lazama a couple hours into their search, her granddaughter Marcella Fox took to a Facebook community page to express her gratitude.
"Hats off to the Rocklin PD yesterday! As many of you may know, my grandma went missing and was found in a ravine in Rocklin today," Fox said in the post. "She had taken a walk to the dry cleaners and got lost. She some how fell and tumbled down."
After Rocklin police's rescue, they said Lazama appeared in good health. Fox said her grandmother survived with only scrapes, bruises and sun exposure.
"However, she was extremely dehydrated and time was not on our side. She is now at home recovering," She said.
Fox's post got a lot of attention and is now being shared all over, according to the police department.
On Wednesday, she dropped by the Rocklin police station to show her appreciation in the form of Starbucks gift cards for those officers involved and responsible for finding her grandmother so quickly.
"The Rocklin PD is amazing! Thank goodness their sense of urgency, professionalism and diligence she was found in time," Fox said. "We had the support of the whole community and we whole-heartily (sic) appreciated it."
