The National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze warning for the Valley area, warning residents to protect themselves, sensitive outdoor plants and bring pets indoors.

The Weather Service said the warning is expected to last until 9 a.m. Monday morning. Hard freezes are temperatures 28 degrees or colder for 3 to 5 hours. A Frost Advisory is also in effect until 8 a.m. for the Bay Area. The advisory means frost is possible and sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.

Overnight temperatures are expected to increase slightly for Tuesday night, with lows in the upper 30s. Authorities say freezing temperatures could damage or destroy crops and vegetation, burst water pipes and endanger outdoor pets.
