'Heinous, calculated crime': Daughter of Homewood shooting victims says parents can now rest in peace

"I feel an immense weight lifted off my shoulders. I have held onto my parents’ ashes as I never felt right scattering them without the justice they deserved."

HOMEWOOD, Calif. — The daughter of the Homewood shooting victims in Placer County says her parents can now rest in peace.

Danny Serafini and Samantha Scott were arrested Friday in Nevada on suspicion of shooting and killing Robert Gary Spohr and injuring his wife, Wendy Wood. The shooting dates back to June 2021.

In a statement from the couple's daughter, Adrienne Spohr, she called the act a "heinous, calculated crime," adding Scott was her sister's close friend.

"When I learned on October 20th that my sister’s husband Daniel Serafini and sister’s close friend Samantha Scott were arrested for the shooting of my parents, I was shaken to my core. This was a heinous, calculated crime," said Spohr. "My parents had been incredibly generous to Daniel Serafini and Erin Spohr throughout their marriage. Despite being pressed for my opinion, I cannot comment on my sister’s level of involvement at this time."

Spohr says her mother was a strong woman who struggled through rehab but eventually regained her ability to read, write, hike and even ride her bike. Ultimately, she says her mother missed her father and wasn't able to live again in her Lake Tahoe home.

The family told ABC10 Wood took her life earlier this year and they hold the shooter responsible for her death, too.

Robert Gary Spohr was described as the emotional backbone of their family. He loved the water and was known for spending summer days cruising Lake Tahoe with his family and friends.

Adrienne Spohr says the news of the arrest ultimately brought her relief and gratitude after two years.

"I feel an immense weight lifted off my shoulders. I have held onto my parents’ ashes as I never felt right scattering them without the justice they deserved," said Spohr. "Now that justice has been served, my parents can finally rest in peace."
