SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Drivers on the I Street Bridge were at a standstill Wednesday night.
The I Street Bridge was temporary closed, causing traffic to be backed up on a day that is considered one of the busiest travel days for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Union Pacific Railroad said the bridge experienced a "mechanical sensor issue."
"It has been reopened and traffic should have recently resumed," Union Pacific Railroad said. "We apologize for the disruption to motorists."
According to Amtrak, trains were unable to access the I Street Bridge with trains temporarily held at the Sacramento and Davis stations. Around 5:45 p.m., Amtrak said the bridge is down and locked began moving trains, but "some residual delays" are expected.
The bridge crosses the Sacramento River and connects the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento. It also serves as a gateway to the Old Sacramento Waterfront, which hosts the annual tree lighting on Wednesday night.
