As the Kings continue their first season in the new Golden 1 Center, the future of the team’s old home will likely become clearer Wednesday night.
The organization, as well as several members of the Sacramento City Council, are scheduled to brief the Natomas community from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Inderkum High School theater about what will happen to Sleep Train Arena. Public input is also welcome regarding the repurposing of the 185-acre site.
The Kings ultimately have control of the arena and the surrounding property due to the city giving the team the rights in the original deal to build the new Golden 1 Center downtown two years ago. The team is required to come to a resolution that would be useful for the Natomas community.
Although the final decision remains unclear, several community members and city officials have discussed a number of possible options, including a new medical facility, housing or recreational buildings.
On Dec. 16 and 17, Sleep Train Arena is scheduled to hold its final events, Sacramento State University commencement ceremonies.
