MORGANZA, Md. — Authorities in Maryland are searching for someone who threw several kittens from a car in St. Mary's County over the weekend.

St. Mary's County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an animal cruelty complaint on Saturday around 8 a.m. Deputies spoke to a caller at the intersection of northbound Route 5 and Route 242 in Morganza.

The caller reported seeing someone in a silver SUV, possibly a Toyota, throwing several kittens — eight or nine, according to investigators — from the vehicle. Once there, deputies found one kitten was dead, but deputies were not able to find the other kittens.

Deputies are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who may have witnessed what happened, to contact Deputy Nicholas Hill at 301-475-4200, ext. 8078, or email Nicholas.Hill@stmaryscountymd.gov.
