SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. — All boats at Lake Berryessa must participate in a 30-day quarantine to prevent the spread of invasive mussels, according to a press release from the Bureau of Reclamation.
This comes after the invasive golden mussel’s first confirmed detection in North America was in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta earlier this month.
A red quarantine seal will be applied to all boats wanting to launch at the lake for 30-days after inspection of the vessel. The boat will be unable to launch during this time. The seal must be removed by authorized staff before launch.
Any boat that wants to launch sooner than 30 days must have hot-water decontamination performed by trained and approved Solano County Water Agency staff.
If the boat does not have a seal upon exit from the lake, it will require another quarantine period or decontamination.
Hand-launched watercraft with electric motors like fishing kayaks must be inspected, but inspection is not required for non-motorized watercraft like kayaks and paddleboards.
Anyone with questions about the quarantine and decontamination protocols can contact the Bureau of Reclamation at BOR-Berryessa@usbr.gov.
