Las Vegas shooting survivor from Roseville says she still can't sleep

The Las Vegas shooting survivor says she has not been able to sleep and gets panicked by loud noises, in the weeks since the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history

Lisa Fine is anything but fine.

The Las Vegas shooting survivor from Roseville says in the weeks since the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history she has not been able to sleep and gets panicked by loud noises.

“My mom, one time, all she did was sneeze and I just thought I was going to die,” Fine told ABC10 over Facetime from her hotel in Hawaii. “I was at the airport coming back, somebody dropped their luggage and my heart just stopped.”

Fine – a personal trainer and professional organizer who was featured Friday night on ABC’s 20/20 – traveled to Maui this week hoping a trip away will help her heal.

“The emotional toll it takes on just your mind and body and soul, there’s no way to explain it,” she said. “It is something we as survivors will probably go through for a long time.”

Fine was one of thousands of people at the Route 91 Country Music Festival when Stephen Paddock began firing into the crowd from his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay and Casino in Las Vegas on October 1. Fifty-eight people were killed and hundreds more injured.

Nearly one month later, Fine says she still has many questions, specifically surrounding Paddock’s girlfriend Marilou Danley, who told authorities she did not know anything about her boyfriend’s plan.

“Why did his girlfriend act like she didn’t know anything?” Fine questioned. “Because it just seems impossible that nobody had any clue that this was going to happen.”

That question, and many others, are still under investigation. Until any answers come, she will continue her own personal journey for closure.

“I don’t think I will ever be the same,” she said. “My goal is to just be OK with that and turn everything around from the bad that it was to something very positive.”

She is part of a group of people in the Sacramento area planning a benefit concert for the Las Vegas shooting victims on November 10th in Rocklin.
