Lincoln council member William 'Bill' Lauritsen dies

William Lauritsen served four years on the city council as a member of the Economic Development Committee.

LINCOLN, Calif. — Lincoln city council member William "Bill" Lauritsen died Thursday, according to city officials.

He was born and raised in New Jersey where he graduated with a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University. Lauritsen studied history and political science while earning a master's degree in finance. He became a CPA during his time in college.

Lauritsen served four years on District 4 city council as a member of the Economic Development Committee. He was elected in November 2020 

According to the city, he was an active member in politics as he served on the Lincoln Democratic Club, Placer County Democratic Central Committee, Lincoln Rotary and was a delegate to the Californian Democratic State Convention.

In 1985, Lauritsen joined the United States Foreign Service where he started his career in the U.S. Department of State as a finance officer. He retired near Washington D.C. and officially moved to Sun City Lincoln Hills in 2017.
