Man arrested in Lodi triple homicide

The sheriff’s office says they chose not to notify the public or media about the June killings to avoid jeopardizing the investigation.

LODI, Calif. — A man wanted for a triple homicide in Lodi is now in custody.

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the deadly shootings happened in June 2024.

The investigation began around 6:30 p.m. June 8 when deputies were sent to a home on E. Mettler Road in Lodi for a welfare check.

Upon arrival, deputies found three people dead inside the home from gunshot wounds. They were identified as: 69-year-old Kim Huynh, 60-year-old Joe Pena and 45-year-old Alfred Nguyen.

The sheriff’s office says they chose not to notify the public or media about the killings to avoid jeopardizing the investigation.

The suspect, 25-year-old Steve Guerrero Jr. of Stockton, was arrested Sept. 14 in Stockton. He was booked on suspicion of three counts of murder and burglary.

At a Monday news conference, San Joaquin County Sheriff Pat Withrow said the victims were a mother, father and son.

"It appeared to us to be a targeted act of violence and it was by somebody who knew the family," said Withrow.

The sheriff's office couldn't elaborate further on the case and investigation.
