Community gathers to search for missing Lodi teen

A prayer vigil was planned for 7 p.m. Sunday at Lodi's First Baptist Church.

LODI, Calif. — Lodi's Katzakian Park is normally where kids play, and on a Sunday, Jay Bean's 14-year-old daughter Daisy would usually do the same.

"If it were up to her, she would probably be out riding her horse and doing trail riding somewhere," Jay said. "She's very easy to talk to. She's very kind. She loves animals."

But at the park on Sunday — and for Daisy's family over the past eight days — nothing was normal.

"The last days have been a nightmare," Jay said. "I don't know how to explain how hard it is to not know where your children are."

According to family, 14-year-old Daisy Bean was last seen walking away from her mom's Lodi home with her pet cat just after noon on Oct. 11. Lodi police said she is at risk and could be traveling to the Bay Area or Arizona, but family members said both of those areas have already been checked.

Lodi police are asking anyone who has seen Daisy or has information about her whereabouts to call them at (209) 333-6727.

"My middle daughter lives in Arizona and she has not heard anything from her, so there's no whereabouts of where she would have gone there," Jay said. "So we're really at a loss."

Jay was also at a loss for words to see community members volunteer to help find his daughter.

"We just went door to door over in the Woodbridge community," said volunteer Vera Haena. "If one of my babies were missing, I would want the community to come together for them."

The same sentiment was repeated by many of the more than 50 volunteers who showed up at the park Sunday morning.

"It's a very emotional day," said volunteer Jen Aiello. "Just wanted to be out here to support the family."

The support goes a long way, especially for Daisy's grandparents who drove nearly five hours from Southern California to help coordinate the search.

"We just pray and hope that somebody out there has seen her," said Daisy's grandmother, Diana Bean.

When unusual replaces normal, hope and faith can replace fear.

"Everybody's praying, keeping her in thought. If you're out there, honey, just call me," Jay said. "You're loved, and there's a lot of people that want to help. Whatever you need, just come home."
