Lodi police chief set to retire after more than 30 year career

Patterson held the mantle of chief for the past five years, and says that, although he loves the department and the city, it's time to move on.

LODI, Calif. — Lodi Police Chief Tod Patterson has announced plans to retire after a more than 30 year career in law enforcement.

In a letter from the chief posted to the Lodi Police Department Facebook page, he said that he intends to retire from the force on May 1.

Patterson held the mantle of chief for the past five years, and says that, although he loves the department and the city, it's time to move on.

"The decision to retire has been exceedingly difficult because of my connection to this department and this community. I love what I do, I love this department, and I love this city, but it is time to move on to the next chapter of my life," Patterson said in the post.

He says he's made the choice to announce his retirement now so the search for a new chief can begin.
