LOOMIS, Calif. — The bicyclist killed in a Sutter County hit-and-run accident has been identified.
According to the Town of Loomis – Government Facebook page, it was the town’s finance director and treasurer, 59-year-old Roger Carroll.
The town says Carroll worked for them for around 25 years and lived there, too.
“Roger was just an amazing person,” said Town Manager Sean Rabé. “He certainly was a key part of our Town staff. We will miss his quick wit and dry humor, and more than anything, his friendship.”
The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 7 a.m. Saturday on Bear River Drive west of Swetzer Road. Carroll was riding in the eastbound lane of Bear River Drive when the car allegedly hit him.
A nearby worker found him lying in the road after the crash and he ultimately died at the hospital.
Deputies with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office found the suspected driver’s 2007 GMC Yukon in a garage and arrested Harpreet Singh Atwal on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death and vehicular manslaughter.
