Police identify man accused of keying 100 cars in Yuba City

The total damage for all vehicles is estimated to be $175,000.

YUBA CITY, Calif. — The Yuba City Police Department identified a suspect Tuesday in a case where 100 vehicles were keyed in one night.

Officers identified 23-year-old Pouriya Sahand as the suspect and accused him of vandalizing around 100 cars overnight from May 4-5, according to a department news release. The total damage is estimated around $175,000.

The vandalisms occurred on several streets in north Yuba City near Regency Park, police say.

Police say Sahand has a warrant out for his arrest, and they believe he is in the Sacramento area.

Anyone with information on his location can call police at 530-822-4661.

For the car owners impacted, they are hoping police are able to arrest Sahand.

“Anger, disbelief and wondering why somebody would do that,” said Patty Basile, whose family had four cars vandalized during spree.

“$12,000, maybe $15,000, I think for everything." said Kyle Kleinhesselink, whose Volkswagen car was scrached up in loops.

Neighbors on Sharon Street thought they were the only ones targeted, but by the next morning, they learned it was a long list.

"We were hearing that it was the next street and then the next street and the next street,” said Joanne McDaniels.

Drivers impacted by the vandalism says they are dealing with a catch-22 with the insurance company.

"If we turn it into the insurance company, our rates will go up, even though it was had nothing to do with us. So basically, we are out of pocket,” said Basile.
