FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A 48-year-old Fairfield man is in custody after he allegedly tried to kidnap a teen girl walking to school Thursday morning.
According to the Fairfield Police Department, it happened around 8:45 a.m. Thursday near Kidder Avenue and San Rafael Street.
A witness reportedly saw the man asking the girl to get into his car and asked her if she knew him. The girl told the witness she did not know the man and the witness then offered to drive the girl to school.
Once at school the student told a teacher about what happened and the teacher notified the school resource officer. Police say they went to the scene of the attempted kidnapping and surveillance cameras in the area captured the vehicle but not its plate.
A dispatcher used the FLOCK system and the city’s CCTV footage to find the license plate and an officer found the vehicle parked on Kidder Avenue.
Investigators surveilled the vehicle for more than four hours until the suspect — 48-year-old Wilson Toia — got into the vehicle. He was stopped and taken into custody.
Police say Toia admitted to contacting the girl and trying to lure her into his car. He was booked on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, communicating with a minor with the intent to kidnap, and annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18.
Anyone with information in the case can call the Fairfield Police Department at 707-428-7300.
