SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man already in custody on unrelated charges is facing a new homicide charge after law enforcement linked him to a March 2024 killing in south Sacramento.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call of a man lying near a canal on March 23 along Tokay Avenue in Florin. There, they found 66-year-old James Czech dead.
Detectives said Czech’s death was likely caused by blunt force trauma and identified the suspect as 36-year-old Ryan Tatara.
The sheriff’s office said Monday that Tatara was in Yolo County Detention Center on unrelated charges. They added a homicide charge.
Tatara is expected to appear Thursday in Sacramento court, deputies said.
