MODESTO, Calif. — A registered sex offender was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of harassing a child.
Christopher Cline, 34, of Modesto, allegedly harassed a high school student as she exited a public transit bus, prompting a response by patrol officers to the school, according to the Modesto Police Department.
“Luckily, the female student was able to get away from Cline unharmed and reported the incident to school staff,” the department said.
Parents were notified with the app “Parent Square.”
Police personnel were provided a photo of Cline from the bus surveillance system, and detectives with the department’s special crime unit reportedly recognized Cline as a registered sex offender.
The Riverbank Police Department later that day located Cline and took him into custody at Stanislaus County Jail, according to law enforcement.
In subsequent contact with the school, detectives allegedly learned of another victim who had not reported the incident. She was contacted on Wednesday, and Cline was re-booked for additional violations, authorities said.
He may also be a suspect in similar cases reported in the city of Oakdale, according to Modesto police.
Police ask anyone with information regarding any investigation related to Cline to contact the Modesto Police Department at 209-572-9564 or the Oakdale Police Department at 209-847-2231.
