Man punched someone, crashed his truck and ran from officers after DUI, Folsom police say

An El Dorado County man allegedly drove under the influence and punched someone he followed in his pickup while they were on the phone reporting him to dispatch.

FOLSOM, Calif. — A man was arrested Wednesday in Folsom after allegedly driving under the influence, punching another man in the face, crashing his vehicle then running away from police, authorities said.

Just after 5:30 p.m., officers arrived at Riley and Natoma streets near Historic Folsom for a road rage incident, according to Folsom Police Department spokesman Det. Andrew Graham. The caller, an unidentified man, said another man driving a Ford pickup truck was following him.

Police identified the pickup truck driver as 24-year-old Yamni Clarin, of El Dorado County.

Clarin allegedly exited his truck and punched the caller while he was on the phone with the department’s dispatch, police told ABC10. The suspect then got back in his truck and drove away, according to law enforcement.

Soon after, Clarin allegedly crashed his truck into a utility box near Riley Street and Lembi Drive. Folsom residents’ utilities were apparently unaffected by the crash. Clarin reportedly flattened his tires in the crash and ran away; officers witnessed Clarin leaving the scene and chased him, Graham said.

“There was a short pursuit on foot until the suspect started jumping fences in the neighborhood,” he said.

Police set up a perimeter and enlisted a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office helicopter for help with the search. Clarin was allegedly located along the 100 block of Diggins Drive and safely taken into custody.

When a suspect is involved in any sort of traffic collision, they are taken to the hospital to be medically cleared for incarceration per the department’s procedure, Graham said. Clarin was reportedly cited at the hospital, where he was Thursday morning.

Graham said he faces charges related to a hit-and-run, driving under the influence, resisting arrest and violation of his probation terms.
